For fintech firms

If your keyword research comes back empty, you are researching the wrong thing.

A fintech often sells something that has no established search term yet, which looks like proof that SEO cannot work here. It is not. People have been describing the problem in their own words for years, and the firm that owns that language gets the category term free when it finally arrives. Glide does that work, written to the rulebook you are authorised under.

The worked example

The term that did not exist yet

Every fintech category was once unsearchable. Before "open banking" was a phrase anyone typed, people were searching how to see all their accounts in one place. Before "buy now pay later" had a name, they were searching whether they could pay for something in instalments without a credit card.

A firm that waits for the category term does two things wrong at once. It misses years of people describing the problem in plain language, which is cheap traffic with no competition. And it arrives at the category term late, competing against pages that have been accumulating authority since before the term existed.

Rank for the problem now and you inherit the category when it is named. That is not a growth hack, it is just the only order the work can be done in.

The three lanes worth owning

The problem, in their words

Long, unglamorous, low-volume and almost uncontested. Individually they look like rounding errors. Together they are the only traffic available before the category has a name, and they are what an AI answer draws on when someone asks how to solve the problem.

The comparison against the incumbent

A fintech is nearly always replacing something, and people search that pairing by name. Highest commercial intent in the sector. It has to be written fairly and accurately, which is both a regulatory requirement and the reason the honest version outperforms the promotional one.

The integration and compliance question

For a B2B fintech this is the best traffic there is. Nobody asks how your API handles a specific regulatory requirement unless they have a live project and a deadline. Volume is tiny, conversion is unlike anything else on the site, and almost nobody writes these pages because they are hard to write.

Fintech SEO, answered

It is the opposite. Nobody searched for "buy now pay later" before it was named either, and the firms that owned the problem language got the category term free when it arrived. If your keyword research comes back empty, you are researching the wrong thing: search for the problem your product solves, which people have been describing in their own words for years.

Three things. The problem, in the words your customers use before they know a solution exists. The comparison, because a fintech is nearly always replacing an incumbent and people search that pairing by name. And the integration or compliance question, which is the highest-intent traffic a B2B fintech can get because only a buyer with a live project asks it.

It sets what you may claim and who signs it off. Depending on your permissions, much of your site is a financial promotion, and if an authorised person approves your promotions then the approval route is part of your publishing schedule whether you planned for it or not. We draft to the standard so your approver is checking rather than rewriting.

Yes, for a structural reason. Fintech buyers ask comparison and explanation questions, which is exactly the shape a model answers rather than a list of links. That means the model is describing your product, and often it is describing it from a competitor page or a review site. Being the clearest, best-structured source on your own category is how you influence what it says.

Paid buys the category term the moment it exists, and it stops the day you stop paying. SEO is slower and compounds, and it is the only one that reaches people who cannot name what they want yet. Most fintechs need both, and the mistake is starting SEO after the category has a name, by which point the pages that own it are two years old.

Not a named one, and you should hear that now. Our evidenced regulated results come from Square 4 Partners, an FCA regulatory compliance consultancy: average position 28 to 14 held for nine months, 843,000 impressions and 18,200 organic clicks over sixteen months. Same regulator, same promotion rules, different product.
